The same finding is worded differently by different radiologists: one writes "hepatic steatosis", another "fatty liver". Clinicians even recognise who wrote a report by its style. The rules engine lets you teach Raporio your word choices once; from then on they are applied to every report automatically.
What is a rule?
A rule has two parts: a word or phrase and the text to write instead. When formatting a report, Raporio uses the second wherever it meets the first.
| Word or phrase | Written instead | |
|---|---|---|
| hepatic steatosis | fatty liver | |
| grade 2 | grade II | |
| unremarkable | normal | |
| CT | computed tomography (CT) |

When rules help
- Preferred terms: Latin or plain-language terms, as you like them.
- Abbreviations: spell out your department's abbreviations, or the other way round.
- Words that are often misheard: if speech recognition confuses a word in your pronunciation, tie the right spelling to a rule.
- Department standards: a team that wants the same wording defines the same rules.
How to add a rule
- 1Open the Rules panel next to the report.
- 2Use New rule to enter the word or phrase and the text to write instead.
- 3Save. The rule applies from the next formatting on.
Keep rules short and specific. A rule on a very general word such as "normal" may change places you did not intend.
Template or rule?
A template is the skeleton of a report: headings, normal sentences, order. A rule is a word-level preference that applies across all your templates. To change wording in a single template, edit the template; to change it everywhere, add a rule.
Frequently asked questions
When are rules applied?
While the report is formatted, that is, when your dictation is worked into the template.
Do rules apply to all my templates?
Yes. Rules are independent of templates and apply to every report.
How many rules can I add?
It depends on your plan; see the plans and pricing page.
